It’s the unofficial start of the eating season. It begins with all the limited fall treats that are only available this time of year, such as pumpkin spice latte or apple cider donuts. As soon as we see "limited edition,” our brains shift into FOMO and we think, "I've got to get one now. They won't be around for long." That’s a Sneaky, Self-Sabotaging Thought (SSST). Don’t fall victim to the hype and allow the season to drive your emotions to eat. It's all clever marketing.
You are in control of what you put in your mouth. When you're aware of the hype behind seasonal marketing, you can intentionally reconnect with your goal as often as possible and be intentional about what seasonal treat you're going to eat and when. Your brain is a pleasure-seeking machine. For some, that pleasure means food. You have sneaky, self-sabotaging thoughts like "I can't wait for the party because we're going to have all this great food" or "I can't wait to try this." These thoughts sound innocent enough, but what you may not be aware of is that these thoughts are the reason you overeat. They cause you to believe that the eating of the food is causing you to experience fun.
